Swimming
Everyday is a good day for open water swimming in the Lake District! Click here for more information about local swimming.
Here is a link to a map of local swimming spots https://drive.google.com/open?id=1n0Ky3W8I6TARJqvKwfwNswm6NPE&usp=sharing Of course you may discover these and others for yourself: it is always exciting to hear stories of other swimming adventures!
There is also the Wild Swim Map of the Outdoor Swimming Society, which you might already be familiar with. You can add your own recommendations there.
If you want to go inside then the nearest pools are:
Cockermouth Leisure Centre (15 miles away): 25m pool, gym, and exercise classes.
Penrith Leisure Centre (18 miles away): 25m pool, gym and exercise classes.
There are an increasing number of swimming events in the Lake District, from guided swimming tours to winter challenges, and the relatively new sport of Swimrun. Here are some links:
Breca Swimrun: stay in your wetsuit as you swim and run across spectacular parts of the Lake District!
Chill Swim: outdoor swimming challenges throughout the year, in skins or wetsuits. Generally in Coniston or Windermere.
Swim the Lakes provide courses, guided wild swims, adventure swims, a specialist wetsuit fitting service and an open water swim shop stuffed with tried & tested swimming accessories.
The Utterly Buttermere Swim Sportive
The Great North Swim: a variety of distances, based in Windermere. Very popular.
