Bedrooms & Camping Pods
Derwentwater Independent Hostel has 84 hostel bed spaces, including 2 doubles across 12 bedrooms. Plus three new heated and insulated camping pods, each sleeping up to four people. Rooms are allocated as single-sex dormitories or private group and family rooms. Please get in touch so that we can discuss which type of room you require.
Many of the bedrooms have beautiful views of Derwent Water or Barrow Cascade. You might even spot a red squirrel from your window: we recently counted 3 red squirrels from the window of Room 4.
Some of the bedrooms also have interesting original early nineteenth century fireplaces and plasterwork.
All bedding is provided and so please do not use sleeping bags. You will find a freshly laundered bedding pack on each of the unoccupied beds in your room. All you need to do is select an unoccupied bed, make it, and enjoy a good sleep.
Some of the bedrooms have lockable cupboards and most of the bedrooms have bed-side lights, a mirror, and a sink. Two of the rooms are ensuite, and all bar one have a wash hand basin.
Click here for a PDF plan of the ground floor and first floor rooms, including images of each bedroom.
Room 1 is our largest bedroom, with 22 bed spaces (11 bunkbeds). It was originally the dining room of Barrow House, with ornate plasterwork and large windows. The room also contains an original Adam-style fireplace, depicting a scene from the life of Belisarius (a general of the Byzantine Empire).
