"Not only did we get our normal warm welcome from the staff but we were also rewarded with a weekend of cold, calm, clear weather with fantastic views of the Lakes and Mountains - which was most unusual! It is great to come back to a warm, friendly hostel to relax and enjoy good food and company."

Ellie Sherwin, Secretary of Search And Rescue Dogs Association, Annual Assessment Course, January 2012.

Family visits

We love meeting lots of different families at Derwentwater Independent Hostel. Young children can roam safely around the house and grounds, and we have lots of different facilities and activities to keep everyone amused, including jigsaws, magazines, local reference books, table tennis, table football, a television, an indoor red squirrel trail, an orienteering course in the grounds, an indoor counting quiz, and of course the wonderful views and wild-life!

Kathy Morris and Dave Piercy have been managing our hostel since 1992 and their two children have grown up in the house. They therefore have plenty of useful local knowledge and a very accommodating attitude towards family groups.

Enjoy exploring the Things to do pages to find out what you can see and do in and around Derwentwater Independent Hostel.
