Activity partners
These are the activity providers and organisations that we work most closely with. However, we are able to recommend many other places of interest. Click here for a more detailed contact list and a map of their locations.
- Field Studies Council (FSC): FSC tutors can come to the hostel to deliver day and half day field work sessions, specialising in Geography, Biology, and Environmental Studies. Sessions are tailored to individual exam board specifications or group objectives. Click here for an information flyer.
- Keswick Museum and Art Gallery (Keswick, 3 miles from the hostel): changing exhibitons and a variety of learning sessions with the museum education officer.
- Honister Slate Mine (Honister Pass, 7 mile drive from the hostel): mine tours for all ages, adaptable to different interests. Really exciting!
- Wordsworth Trust (Grasmere - 15 mile drive from the hostel): Dove Cottage, Wordsworth Museum, Jerwood Centre, and on and off-site workshops (education officer can come to the hostel).
- National Trust (Borrowdale officers come to the hostel): farm visits and woodland management.
- Glaramara (instructors come to the hostel): adventure activities with minibus transport and equipment provided.
- Forestry Commission at Whinlatter (7 mile drive from the hostel): Classrooms in the Forest offer a wide range of programmes for Key Stages 1 - 4. They can also deliver a lot of their sessions in the hostel grounds.
- Low Bridge End Farm (St John's in the Vale - 7 mile drive from the hostel): a Higher Level Stewardship farm which offers free educational visits for a range of subjects.
