"The welcome at the Hostel is warm. The facilities are great - the drying room for wetsuits and soggy towels is a bonus. The food is plentiful (especially the breakfast) - except there were a few groans when the Sunday morning training session began with a 4 mile run - quite a challenge after bacon, eggs, sausage, tomato, mushrooms and beans! The COLT ladies had a wonderful room with a lake view which would have cost a fortune in a hotel. Having the kitchen facilities is handy for making early morning and late evening brews and the selection of beers and wine on offer is impressiveThanks to all the staff for looking after us so well. We hope to see you again later in the year."

Kelli Hirst, City of Lancaster Triathalon (COLT) club training weekend, April 2012.

Borrowdale has a superb range of routes, from easy scrambles to modern test pieces. Shepherd's Crag is a pleasant 20 minute walk from the hostel. The Brown Slab area is justly popular with beginners. The Shepherd's Café (High Lodore Farm) is a great place for refreshments after battling up Little Chamonix. Troutdale Pinnacle on Black Crag is the stand-out route of the valley. If you prefer the high mountain crags, Gillercombe Buttress and The Great Napes are easily reached from the head of the valley.
